BREAKING: FIFA Orders An Unprecedented Replay Of Ghana And Uganda Match

GFA petitions FIFA over disqualified Ghana goal against Uganda

- The GFA has asked FIFA to sanction a replay against Uganda due to what it said was the poor performance of the match officials

- In its petition to FIFA, the GFA said the South African referee and his assistants denied Ghana a clear goal in the 93rd minute and a penalty earlier in the second half

 - The referee's performance has been condemned by many Ghanaians

The Ghana Footballer association has petitioned FIFA to protest the disqualification of a dying minute goal scored by the Black Stars in their crucial World Cup qualifying match against Uganda.

Ghana needed to win the match at all cost to keep their World Cup hopes alive, and they appeared to have pulled it off in the 93rd when striker Raphael Dwamena scored from a rebound. However, Daniel Bennett, the South African referee who officiated the match, disqualified the goal to the shock and consternation of the Black Stars players and technical officials.

Although the assistant referee raised his flag to indicate that the goal was scored from an offside position, the referee is quoted as saying that he disqualified the goal because time had run out. The development provoked widespread national outrage, with many Ghanaians calling on the GFA to act.

The GFA has now responded by officially writing to FIFA to complain about the officiating of Benneth and his assistants, Eldrick Adelaide and Steve Marie. In its petition, the GFA pointed to the 93rd minute disqualified goal and what it said was the refusal of the referee to award a penalty to Ghana earlier in the second half as evidence of bad officiating by the South African official and his assistants.

"These and several other decisions by the match officials have left the GFA with no option than to ask FIFA to examine their performances. The GFA respectfully asked FIFA to consider the possibility of a replay in order to serve the ends of justice without fear or favour," the football association said in a statement. Ghana's failure to beat Uganda effectively ended their Russia 2018 World Cup dream, although the country still has a mathematical chance of qualifying.
